(formerly WN6LGW, 1968)
I enormously enjoyed my time as a Novice. I probably upgraded too fast. That was 1968.My best days on ham radio were the first 6 months – as a Novice. It was really a thrill back then. Naturally, that comes with the perspective of age. Often times it's the journey that is more enjoyable than obtaining the goal. I've always enjoyed the hobby but those months as a Novice were special.
Transmitter: DX 60B
Receiver: Mosley CM-1.
I wish I still had that station!
I received my novice license in September of 1968. Two days prior, I received my callsign, WN6LGW, from “The Little Print Shop” in Texas. Those of us who have been around a while remember how this “little shop” had the QSL card market locked up here in America. How they managed to get a stack of sample cards to me, address including my new callsign, prior to receiving my ticket from the FCC, was a testimony to free enterprise.
