Got my novice when I was 12 as my dad got interested in radio, but he could never grasp the code.... I was a musician at the time, so the code came fairly easy to me. He bought us a Heathkit transmitter, which we assembled together, and a Drake R4A receiver (one heck of a radio!). We put up a trapped dipole hung from a 50FT tower, I worked probably 40 states + canada. I could never get my code speed up to General class level, so I let my Novice expire after 2 years. Just getting back into the hobby this year, got my Tech ticket in June, and will get my general this July. My goal is to get my Extra by the end of the year ! I have a roofer scheduled to come tomorrow to put up my new vertical. Can't wait to fire up my new rig (KW-TS-2000) and get back on the air !!!
