Please share with your fellow hams a story of your Novice year(s). The story should mainly focus on your Novice period. A story can be a photo or a few lines of text to a full blown story of several pages.
My father was an Amateur. He was 9DRQ back before I was born. After WW2 he sold the Missouri farm and got relicensed as W0DBO (1950?). We moved to Arizona shortly after that (early 1951). He had a 75A1 receiver and a Harvey Wells transmitter. To begin with the antenna was a ten meter ground plane. The decade of the fifties had very good propagation, so ten was open most of the time. There also was a lot of local activity on ten. Local nets etc, much like two became with the advent of repeaters. Anyway when I got my Novice license I used his station. I just got an 11 meter crystal for the Harvey Wells. My first contact was North Carolina from Arizona!
